Mardit Matian

Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Matian is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of EH Energy, where he designed, built and validated the company's patented and innovative fuel cell stack technology, as well as its unique manufacturing approach. He holds a PhD in fuel cells from Imperial College London, and as CTO he leads EH Energy's technical strategy and oversees its engineering and R&D teams, continually pushing the boundaries of innovation and performance across the entire EH Energy Platform. His work spans the full technology lifecycle, from fundamental cell and stack design through system integration, validation and the manufacturing processes needed to take EH Energy's technology from the lab to commercial scale.

‍

Matian is a mechanical engineer by background, and has more than 25 years of hands-on experience across both low- and high-temperature fuel cells, including proton exchange membrane (PEM) and solid oxide (SOFC) fuel cells, as well as hydrogen production from electrolyzers and reformers. This breadth across fuel cell chemistries and hydrogen production gives him a rare, system-level perspective on how fuel cells can be designed for performance, durability and cost.

‍

Over the course of his career, Matian has worked at specialized fuel cell companies as well as at large global enterprises such as ABB, giving him experience in both the agility of early-stage technology development and the rigor of industrial-scale engineering. He holds several patents in the field.

‍

The innovations behind EH Energy's core fuel cell stack and its continuous production machinery are the product of Matian's two decades of work, during which he has repeatedly learned, tried and refined his technical designs around a radically simplified fuel cell design at microstructure level. This simplification is central to EH Energy's approach, enabling a platform designed to be more manufacturable, scalable and cost-effective, and positioning the company to serve demanding markets including stationary, aviation, and mobility applications.
